This manifested itself amongst the artists including the jewellers in the imitation of various styles of earlier periods. The Renaissance style was revived, amongst others, during 1850 and 1890 by Austrian, English, German, French and Italian jewellers, some of who made pieces close to Renaissance originals, others with Renaissance motifs and few made fakes. The jewellery pieces in Renaissance revival style shown on this page are imitations of the 16thC and 17thC originals. Lot 438 for example shows enamelled polychrome flower motifs, a style which occured in Spain and Sicily at the end of the 17thC.
