Lot Essay

Three similar versions are known: the signed picture sold at Sotheby's, Madrid, 16 November 1977, lot 54; the picture in the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Liege, inv. no. 179; and the picture in the Brukenthal Museum, Romania, inv. no. 388 (see U. Harting, Frans Francken der Jungere, Freren, 1989, pp. 247-8, nos 79-81).
