WALTER CHAPPELL (1925-2000)
Walter Chappell was a passionate writer, musician, architect and filmmaker. His creative interests turned towards photography in the late 1950s, studying with Minor White whom he first befriended in 1942. Chappell's photographs are meditative reflections on his surroundings. Complex and carefully crafted, they resound with a passion for nature and a love for the outdoors. Chappell gained from White a keen sense of observation, of which he produced pictures bordering on the surreal and wholly grounded in formalism. Walter Chappell passed away last year at the age of 75.
