Lot Essay

The present carpet was used in the central bedroom of the second floor at Eagle Rock, Henry Clay Frick's summer residence at Prides Crossing, Massachusetts.
The design of the present carpet is Persian in origin and known as the herati pattern, however, China borrowed the design from East Turkestan carpets copying the Persian original. For an example of an East Turkestan carpet with a similar design, please see Sphuler, F., The Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection, Philip Wilson Publishers Ltd., London, 1998, fig. 52, p. 202.
