A FINE GEORGE II SILVER SOUP LADLE
Circa 1750
The cast rococo terminal with rocaille, flowers and foliage enclosing a cartouche engraved with a crest, the fluted shell bowl with crenellated rim, apparently unmarked

Lot Essay

Most ornately cast rococo soup, punch and sauce ladles feature plain bowls, such as the Paul de Lamerie pairs of soup and sauce ladles in the Gilbert Collection. A shell-fluted bowl is more unusual; one Lamerie example from 1738, chased with grapes and vine leaves, was exhibited at the Art Treasures Exhibition, 1932.
