Lot Essay

The daily life of workmen, either in factories or in the fields, was a main source of inspiration for the artist. The present lot can be compared with similar compositions of peasants plowing the fields or taking their lunchbreak (see Vaders middageten, oil on canvas, 72 x 88 cm. and Op den esch in Drente; photographs recorded in the R.K.D., The Hague).
