The maker John Hunter was active at his Swallow Street address from 1779-1793. The same label is affixed to a mezzotint portrait of Sir Edward Astley published in 1771 in the collection of the Hon. Christopher Lennox-Boyd (label reproduced in C. Gilbert, Pictorial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture 1700-1840, Leeds, 1996, p.269, fig.502).
