A design executed by the architect Roger Morris and published in his Architecture Improv'd in a Collection of Modern, Useful and Elegant Designs of 1757, plate 37 displays a similar radiating Apollo mask and corbelled sides (see E. White, ed., Pictorial Dictionary of British 18th Century Furniture Design, Woodbridge, Suffolk, 1990, pl.37).

Mongiardino's remodelling of the apartment of the astute businessman, philanthropist and passionate collector Peter Jay Sharp in Park Avenue included the celebrated studiolo, a faux intarsia room probably inspired by the intarsia study from Gubbio now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. This fireplace is visible in situ in the Living Room of the Sharp apartment in the sale catalogue of the collection, sold Sotheby's New York, 13 January 1994, before lot 45.
