The Gillows name refers to an English family of cabinet makers and furniture retailers founded by Robert Gillow 1st in the second quarter of the 18th Century in Lancaster. In 1769, Robert Gillow 2nd branched off to Oxford Street, London and their work continued through the 19th Century. Characteristics of Gillow's pieces are the bulbous reeded feet and the rounded foliate-headed side moldings as seen on this pair of side cabinets.
