Mrs. Edith Hamlin (formerly Mrs. Maynard Dixon) writes of this work in a letter dated November 21, 1983:
'The original Maynard Dixon crayon and black pencil drawing arrived today, and I'm delighted to see it again. It was part of my Dixon collection until I sold it some years ago. The cardboard backing of the drawing is labelled in my own printed title: "Apache Woman at Trading Post" 1903 - Rice - Arizona, by Maynard Dixon. It is an excellent "field sketch" made during a trip to the Southwest in 1903. It is signed and annotated by the artist.'
A photo certificate signed by Mrs. Edith Hamlin accompanies the lot.
