A DESIGNER'S VISION FOR THE NEW MILLENNIUM
THE DECORATIVE ARTS AND INTERIOR DESIGN
MARC CHARBONNET
Marc Charbonnet established his New York design firm, MECA (Marc Edward Charbonnet Associates), in 1991. Marc's design work combines the sensitivity of his native New Orleans with the eclecticism of his adopted New York. He likes to work with nineteenth-century English and American furniture, as well as with more traditional eighteenth-century French, English, and Russian pieces. MECA projects often include exclusive items such as mosaic floors, moldings and light fixtures that have been designed by Marc.
Marc Charbonnet is included as one of the 100 Designers and Architects selected by Architectural Digest and appears in the January 2000 Interior Design Legends issue.
Marc has been featured in AD Shopping and AD At Large. He has worked as a photo stylist, creating interiors for Lancôme ads featuring Isabella Rosselini, a CD cover for Mary J. Blige, and photo shoots for John Leguiziamo.
We are pleased that Marc Charbonnet has agreed to spear head our Designer's Vision Series for the first Nineteenth Century Furniture, Sculpture, Works of Art and Ceramics sale at Christie's Rockefeller Center. Marc has selected several pieces of special interest for his comment and will design a showcase room for the viewing exhibition.
DESIGNER SELECTION

My childhood in Louisiana afforded me many fine moments in the gardens and parks of New Orleans as well as the surrounding towns and countryside. When I first saw this fantastic set of marble figures (lot 311), I was flooded with memories of sunlight and cool lawns and the feeling of thick green velvet moss under my bare feet. These Italian figures would be fabulous gracing an interior or exterior of today.

Today's lifestyles are so different from the past. This table top (lot 180) looks so well in a traditional or contemporary environment. A piece like this makes any setting scream chic!

I always have believed that it is important to bring a room into focus with something really wonderful, something interesting and important. This large and imposing pair of vases (lot 251) presents the perfect opportunity to make a design statement.

Eighteenth century and early nineteenth century fine French furniture is difficult to find and even more difficult to afford. This beautiful Empire style console table (lot 179) is a prize today and a definite treasure tomorrow. How amazing would this piece look in the entrance of a great clean open space!
