Circa 1870
Comprising eight arm- and eight side-chairs, each with rocaille-carved open back and apron, the padded seat upholstered in gold silk brocade, the armchairs with scrolled arms, on cabriole legs (16)

Examples of side-chairs very similar in design to the present set and dating from the mid-18th century are illustrated in G. Wannenes, Mobili d'Italia, Milano, 1984, p. 58 and G. Morazzoni, Il Mobile Veneziano del '700, Milan, 1927, plate CXLV. A mid-18th century pair of similar side chairs were sold Sotheby's London, The Italian Furniture from the Estate of the Late Giuseppe Rossi, 10 March 1999, lot 121.
