AN AUSTRIAN PARCEL-GILT AND POLYCHROME-DECORATED LONGCASE ORGAN CLOCK
Vienna, Circa 1890
Surmounted by Apollo plucking a lyre, the projecting corners mounted with music-making youthful satyrs to the front and lidded urns to the rear, with enamel dial and twin-train movement, the rectangular case with panelled sides, the front applied to the central section with urns issuing foliage and with a pair of birds, and to the lower section with three putti and a ram, the angles each mounted with a fluted boss above an angel with acanthus tail and terminating in a lion-paw foot, on rectangular base with projecting corners, the inside of the case with pencil inscription Wilhelm K[]Argell../bei Josef Nehuta(?)/?urggasse07etc etc, twice stamped ALFRED BINDER/ANTIQUITATEN RESTAURIERUNG/Wien 3, Gerlgasse and with further indistinct stamp, together with five organ barrels
