An Italian micro-mosaic table top on parcel-gilt ebonized base
Circa 1870
The rectangular top with brown ground inlaid with scrolling foliage, centred by a circular panel depicting a view of St Peter's Square, Rome, surrounded by a foliate and berry garland, the corners each inlaid with a smaller panel depicting views of the Lucano Bridge, Tomb of Cecilia Metella, Pyramid of Cestius, and a fourth unidentifiable view, set within an entwined laurel and ribbon border, the base with panelled sides carved to the centre and corners with a circular boss, on square tapering legs reinforced with scrolled volutes and joined by an 'H'-shaped stretcher, on claw and ball feet
