Binding: contemporary pigskin over wooden boards, triple fillet border on upper cover, each cover with 5 brass bosses and 4 edge-pieces at corners, 2 fore-edge clasps (one clasp missing), remains of paper label on upper cover, spine liner from a ?12th-century manuscript on vellum referring to "aquisgrani", (leather torn from lower spine); modern blue linen solander box.

SECOND EDITION of one of St. Augustine's chief exegetical works. The edition was presumably ready for sale by 8 September 1489, when the Cologne bookseller Heinrich Müelich ordered 10 copies from Amerbach (cf. A. Hartmann ed., Die Amerbachkorrespondenz, I, 21-22).
