Chancery 2o (274 x 194 mm). Collation: a-c6 d4 (a1r xylographic title, a1v blank, a2r full-page woodcut, a2v text, d2r full-page woodcut, d4 blank). 21 leaves (of 22, without final blank). 45 lines. Type: 4:94 Schwabacher. Xylographic title, two full-page genealogical woodcuts with portraits, the first of Leopold, Margrave of Austria and Count of Babenberg, the second of Albrecht of Habsburg, woodcut white-on-black initials in several sizes. 3-line initial spaces with printed guide-letters. (Light stain at upper margin, some browning.) 19th-century white paper over thin pasteboard, red edges (corners slightly bumped, tear at head of spine).

FIRST EDITION of this chronological history of the ancestry of the Austrian royal family, tracing the descendants of the houses of Babenberg and Habsburg and their deeds. It was written by Suntheim, a member of Conrad Celtis' humanistic literary society, the Sodalitas litteraria Rhenana. Suntheim also served as chaplain at the imperial court of Maximilian I from 1498 and was appointed court historian, an appointment secured no doubt on the basis of his authorship of the present volume.
RARE: the only other copy to appear at auction this century was the Sexton copy. H 879*; BMC III, 782 (IB. 37767); Harvard/Walsh 1243; Schreiber 4075; Goff S-868.
