FIRST ALDINE EDITION. This combination of texts on Roman agriculture was first printed by Jenson at Venice in 1472 (for another incunable edition, see lot 115). IMPORTANT ASSOCIATION COPY from the library of the author of The Scholemaster, a plaine and perfite way of teachyng children to understand, write, and speake in Latin tong (1570). Aldus and his successors were remarkably successful in marketing their editions throughout Northern Europe, particularly in France, Germany and the Low Countries. Early English ownership of Aldine editions, however, appears to be much rarer.
