An armorial oval warming dish and cover
Circa 1800
Decorated in pseudo-Imari style with a central coat-of-arms held by an elephant and a tiger, surrounded by radiating alternate panels of flowering chrysanthemum or a flower-head reserved on a blue ground, the double-based dish appied with a spout and an openwork handle, the cover surmounted by a bud finial, slight rubbing to the gilt

See for a plate from the same service D.Howard and J.Ayers, China for the West, London and New York, 1978, Volume II, p.475, pl.487. The authors state that an armorial service with exactly the same design was made by Chamberlain at Worcester in the late 1790s for Hay, Earl of Errol.
