An encre-de-chine 'crucifixion' and a 'resurrection' plate
Circa 1745
Both decorated en grisaille heightened in gilding, the first plate with a scene of the 'Crucifixion' showing the centurions casting dice before the crucified Christ, flanked by the two thieves above the Virgin Mary, St. John and other mourners; and a plate depicting the 'Resurrection', the risen Christ envelopped by clouds with an angel at his feet, above the sleeping soldiers, both surrounded by a border of scalework panels issuing foliate scrolls, strapwork and cornucopias, minute rim frittings
