The short cylindrical side cast in relief and highlighted in gilding with dragons and mythical animals emerging from swirling waves below fire and cloud scrolls, the wide flat everted rim with coiling dragons among cloud swirls on a fine trellis ground, supported on three caparisoned elephant-head mask feet

Hu Wenming (active 1583-1613) of Yunjian (modern Songjiang, near Shanghai) is perhaps the most famous name associated with incense wares of this type made for the scholar's table.
