Eighteenth-century Venetian manuscript, dated 1762 to 1764, documenting the events surrounding the baptism by Anna Martini of a one-year old Jewish baby girl into the Catholic Church, against the wishes of the parents. Includes records of legal applications to the Venetian authorities for the baptism; an interview of Anna Martini relating how she found the baby suffering from poverty in the Jewish ghetto and, thinking her dying, illegally baptized her on the spot; the baby's birth certificate; various testimonies; applications for the baby to be taken in by the Church; legal accounts of laws relating to the baptism of Jewish children (such as in cases without prior consent of the parents) into the Catholic Faith from the Codice Regio (as outlined by the King of Sardegna).
