FINELY DECORATED LETTERS PATENT OF GEORGE III, WITH PORTRAIT. An Irish jurist and political administrator, the Earl of Clare vehemently opposed efforts to remove disabilities placed upon Roman Catholics in Ireland, and while serving as Lord Chancellor of Ireland from 1789 to 1802, worked to solidify English rule over Ireland.
