Mesopotamia or Khorassan, circa 9th Century
The drop-shaped body moulded with diagional fluting, a raised collar below the elegant narrow neck with flaring mouth and flat everted lip, the S-shaped handle with bold thumbpiece in the form of a flaring palmette, linked on the mouth with two stylised birds' heads, a stylised animal's head forming the lower terminal, slight decoration engraved on the lip, otherwise plain save for a later small band of floral decoration on one of the frontal flutes, slight restoration
