Millefiori glass vessels continued being made in the Islamic period, but not to the same extent as under the Romans. Examples have been excavated at Samarra, as well as in late Sasanian Susa and Ctestiphon. Interestingly, despite the huge glass production at Nishapur, the technique appears not to have been practiced there. The present vessel owes its shape to a Sasanian silver form. The size of this pieces and the execution are however typical for the early Islamic period. A similar example is in the al-Sabah Collection (Qaddumi, Ghada Hijjawi: Variety in Unity, Kuwait, 1987, no.LNS 63 G, P.103).
