Augustus, the new Alexander, considered himself a descendant of Aeneas through the Julian line just as Alexander believed he was a descendant of Achilles through his mother. Taking the name Augustus after his victory at Actium, the Emperor was often portrayed modestly with a simply veiled head, dressed to offer sacrifices.
