Lot Essay

Old ink inscribed label "1225" on reverse.

This is one of the finest examples ever to come on the market and represents the best of Egyptian art during the Saite Period. Cf. Exhibition catalogue, Egyptian Art at Eton College, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, 2000, p. 58, no. 91, where it is suggested that certain quality pieces might have originated in a master workshop located in the area around Sheikh el-Farag (Naga el-Deir).
