A MIDDLE CORINTHIAN CONVEX PYXIS WITH LID
600-575 B.C.
The body with encircling frieze of animals, a roaring lion, a boar, a panther and a swan, rosettes in the field, details incised and in added red, the knobbed disc lid with encircling bands of tongues and chequered friezes, some glaze rubbed; and an early Corinthian pyxis with slip-over lid (fixed), the side with frieze of alternating panels of black wavy vertical lines and squares, above with central concentric circles surrounded by frieze of alternating red and black tongues, pierced in centre for handle attachment, minor repair, 640-625 B.C., both with presentation cases
