AN APULIAN RED-FIGURE VOLUTE-KRATER ATTRIBUTED TO THE OLDENBURG PAINTER

Side A: a nude youth seated in a naiskos, holding a cuirass and a knotty club, another cuirass on the ground, a frontally facing female head on the neck emerging from a flower calyx with flowers and tendrils either side
Side B: a large female head in profile to the left, wearing earrings, two bead necklaces, her hair bound in a sakkos and wearing a stephane, a palmette on the neck
Large palmettes under each handle, four female heads in relief on the handle medallions and four swan heads on the shoulder, details in added white and yellow, repaired
24 7/8 in. (63.2 cm.) high
