A fine panoramic view of Table Bay with shipping, the town and Table Mountain behind. The plate is dedicated to Major General Sir Benjamin D'Urban, governor and commander of the colony of the Cape of Good Hope. The artist, son of P.C.Schonegevel of the Dutch Grammar School 'may have been the first S[outh] A[frican] to endeavour to make a living as a professional artist, but like so many others, he was compelled to seek alternative employment and became a compositor in the Government Printing Office': A.
