SIX ISLAMIC INSCRIBED GLASS DISC WEIGHTS
8TH-12TH CENTURY A.D.
Comprising a translucent green glass fels weight, stamped with Arabic inscription of Obeydallah ibn el Habhab, Treasurer of Egypt, 720-732 A.D.; three Fatamid weights including a green glass weight of El Hakim 996-1020 A.D., one of El Mustansir 1035-1094 A.D., and one of opaque white glass with gilt splash of El Amyr 1101-1130 A.D.; a small black disc, and another in green, for Abdallah, circa 10th Century A.D., 1 1/8 in. (3 cm.) diam. max.; five Roman glass appliqués, two with theatrical masks and three with lion masks in relief; a Janus-headed mask pendant with long corkscrew curls, all circa 1st-3rd Century A.D., 1 5/8 in. (4.2 cm.) diam. max.; a fragmentary mosaic glass floral inlay tile, with Nilotic plants including lotus fruits, circa 1st Century B.C./A.D., 1 7/8 in. (4.8 cm.) diam. max.; and a large group of similar glass appliqués, pendants and weights, including an opaque blue glass Bes head pendant, 1 3/8 in. (3.5 cm.) high, all early 1st millennium A.D. (36)
