Lot Essay

The present work is directly related to the lithograph of the same title published in Prout's Sydney Illustrated.

Prout arrived with his family in Sydney in 1840, where he remained until moving on to Tasmania in 1844. We are grateful to Tony Brown for his suggestion that the present picture probably dates to soon after his arrival in New South Wales.
