Don Pedro Christophersen facilitated the successful conclusion of both the expedition and the present written account. He provided vital financial support to the expedition at a time when it was in danger of failing due to lack of money. Amundsen wrote in January 1912 'I owe the King, Nansen, and Christophersen more than I can express. When everyone turned their backs - they stretched out their hand. God bless them!' Amundsen did not meet Christophersen until the spring of 1912 in Montevideo, when Don Pedro provided him with accomodation at one of his estancias at which he was able to complete his account of the expedition.
