Watercolourist, genre painter and illustrator, Stacey Marks was best known for his paintings of birds and depictions of the Suffolk Coast. The son of a coach builder, he studied under J.M. Leigh (1808-1860) and under F.E. Picot (1786-1868) in Paris. He entered the Royal Academy in 1851 and was elected A.R.A. then R.A. in 1871 and 1878.
