Beningfield studied at St. Alban's School of Art between 1953 and 1957. He maintained his enthusiasm for natural history painting, whilst following a career in ecclesiastical sculpture and glass engraving. He specializes in depicting birds and small mammals of the English countryside but has also gathered material as far afield as Iceland.
