Lot Essay

Two closely related examples in the Palace Museum, Beijing, are illustrated in Porcelain of the Song Dynasty - Part II, p. 33, pl. 28, a glaze of bluish tone (12.5 cm. diam.); and p. 34, pl. 29, with glaze of a light grey colour (16.6 cm. diam.).

Compare also the form with a Geyao six-lobed dish, from the E. T. Chow collection, sold in London, 16 December 1980, lot 296, which has a glaze with a denser network of crackles.
