A FINE MASSIVE EARLY MING DYNASTY LONGQUAN CELADON FOLIATE-RIM CHARGER

Strongly potted, the cavetto moulded with numerous flutes radiating on the cavetto and encircling the centre, below the moulded barbed rim, the exterior with conforming flutes radiating from the footring, applied overall with a dense bubble-infused glaze of rich sea-green tone, the base similarly glazed leaving an unglazed ring burnt orange in the firing

Compare two examples of this large form and decorated with foliate-rims: the first, illustrated by R. Krahl, Chinese Ceramics in the Topkapi Saray Museum, Istanbul, 1986, vol. I, no. 477 (62.5 cm. diam.); and the other, sold in Hong Kong, 31 October 1995, lot 347 (62.2 cm. diam.).
