A huanghuali brushpot of similar form also with a fitted base from the Liang Yi Collection is illustrated by C. Evarts, A Leisurely Pursuit, p. 237, no. 99; where the author compared it with a painting from the National Palace Museum, Taibei, by the 16th-century artist, Qiu Ying, depicting a lobed brushpot on a scholar's table.
