Lot Essay

The Prince Dauphin was sold as "For the man who prefers a small watch" they were the only Rolex watch without a seconds hand which were chronometer certified. As a seconds hand is needed by the testing house, the movement was fitted with a special 4th wheel with the seconds engraved on it. The Prince Dauphin was an expensive watch, it sold at 1 guinea (/p1.05) less than a regular Prince and interestingly the three styles that the watch was available in, Classic, Brancard and Railway were smaller versions of the regular Prince.
