Lot Essay

The "Canadian" Rolex models can be divided into two different strands, the Swiss cased watches (this model for example) and the more common Canadian cased watches. See Lot 38-41. The Swiss cased watches were sold in many countries and were usually signed simply "Oyster Junior Sport" on the dials. The Canadian cased watches were, of course, only sold in Canada. Both strands usually used the Fontmelon calibre 59 movement, however in the Swiss cased watches this movement had a Rolex balance whilst the Canadian cased watches used the movement in its most basic configuration. Both strands of the "Canadian" Rolex were an attempt by the company to produce a more economical version of their prestige mainstream product.
