oil on canvas backed on board, the young lovers seated together, the female holds a glass before them, the decanter half full by her feet, both wearing elaborately embroidered and jewelled costumes, arched frame -- 140.5 x 94cm, (areas of creasing).

Lot Essay

The painting is almost identical to lot 157, 14 October 1997 sold in Christie's King Street Rooms. It is conceivably possible that more than one rendition of the same subject was painted but, more probably, the present painting is a later Qajar copy
