The model 1630 was the first new Datejust case style from Rolex for over 30 years when it was introduced in 1977; it utilised the same style of case as the model 17000 Oysterquartz. However this style was not successful for the mechanical watches and was abandoned after only a few years, remaining in production nowdays as a quartz watch.
