Lot Essay

It is thought that the Explorer model was originally made in honor of Edmund Hilary and Tenzing Norgay, who were the first to reach the summit of Everest on 29 May 1953, wearing Rolex wristwatches.

The Explorer has been redesigned several times over the years and remains a popular model today.
