Lot Essay

The non Oyster moonphase, model 8171, has always played "second fiddle" to its more desirable companion Oyster model 6062 in the collector stakes, yet the watch is in fact rarer than the Oyster version. Whilst the Oyster model was in the company's catalogues for over 8 years (1951 to 1959) the 8171 was only available for 4 years (1952 to 1955).
