A Dirk of the 92nd Highlanders
An officer's dirk, with blade by J B JOHNSTONE Sackville St & Dawson St, Dublin, etched on one side with foliate decoration, VR cypher reversed and intertwined, figure of St Andrew and Sphinx above XCII, the other side bearing twelve scrolls inscribed with battle-honours to WATERLOO, carved bog-oak grip with white metal studs and pommel of distinctive regimental pattern (now slightly distorted and with its facetted glass finial detached), black leather scabbard with white metal locket mounted with Sphinx over 92 and other mounts bearing Thistle decoration, fitted with small knife and fork with pommels matching those of the dirk, secured by narrow chains (some studs missing from grips of dirk and small implements, some mounts insecure)
