An Italian parcel-gilt ebonised and pietra dura side chair
In the Seventeenth Century Style, Last quarter 19th Century
With crimson silk drop-in seat, decorated overall with an intricate design of marble-inlaid shaped and circular panels including testaccio, cipollino rosso, verde antico and others, the arched waved splat joined by turned and tapering uprights each terminating in a ball finial, the conformingly inlaid seat-rails on block-headed part-turned tapering legs joined by an 'H'-shaped turned stretcher, on toupie feet

Lot Essay

This chair, 'jewelled' with pietra dura reflects the Florentine princely magnificence of taste.
A virtually identical chair is illustrated in G. Wannenes, Mobili d'Italia L'Ottocento, Milan, 1987, p. 173, fig 351, 352.
A set of six chairs identical chairs were sold at Sotheby's, London, 24 may 1996, lot 256.
