Lieutenant-Colonel Edward Pinckard Bryant was born in London in April 1809, the son of a Surgeon, and was educated at Merchant Taylors School. Arriving in India as a Cadet in March 1826, he was posted to the 49th Native Infantry, but transferred as a Lieutenant, in May 1832, to the 68th Native Infantry. Bryant was advanced to Captain in January 1844 and was present at the Battle of Sobraon in the First Sikh War, but was invalided in November 1851 a few days after being given the Brevet of Major. On being placed on the Retired List in January 1859, he was granted the rank of Hon. Lieutenant-Colonel. Bryant died in St. Leonards-on-Sea in late 1893.
