Lieutenant-Colonel Thomas Greenway was appointed an Ensign in June 1845 and arrived in India in September of the same year, being posted to the 50th Madras N.I. Gaining advancement to Lieutenant in November 1848, shortly after participating in operations in Goomsur with the Kurnoor Moveable Column, he saw further action in the Indian Mutiny, bring present at the Battle of Banda in April 1858 and was employed in Captain Hilliard's detachment at Tolakanjarum towards the end of the conflict. Greenway, who was promoted to Captain in September 1861 and given the Brevet of Major in June 1863, was placed on the Retired List in November 1867 in the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. He died at Sidcup in the 1890s.
