A French ormolu-mounted tulipwood and marquetry lady's writing table
In the Transitional Style, In the manner of Topino, Second half 19th Century
The three-quarter galleried top centered with a marquetry of flowers and vases, above a frieze decorated with Vitruvian scrolls, fitted with a pull-out writing slide and a drawer, on cabriole legs headed by garland-applied fluted mounts issuing foliate-capped scrolling terminals, joined by a three-quarter galleried kidney-shaped undertier decorated with a conforming marquetry, on foliate scrolled sabots.
20 7/8 in. (53 cm.) wide; 29 in. (73.6 cm.) high; 16½ in. (42 cm. deep)

Lot Essay

The elliptic table is inlaid with trompe l'oeil vase marquetry in the fashion of the 1770s and its style is particularly associated with Charles Topino elected Maître ébéniste in 1773. A related 18th century prototype, featuring the Vitruvian-scroll frieze and bearing the stamp of D. de Loose, was sold in these rooms 29 November 1973, lot 90.
