Lot Essay

Lieutenant Henry Mackintosh was born in 1827, the son of an Assistant Surgeon, R.A., and although educated at the R.M.A. Woolwich, was passed for a Cadet of Infantry, Madras Establishment, being commissioned Ensign, 52nd Madras N.I., in January 1847. He became Lieutenant in October 1851. The following year he commanded a party of 30 Madras Sappers and Miners in the storm and capture of the City by H.M's 80th and 67th Bengal N.I. Subsequent to field service in Burma he was employed by the Public Works Department on the Prome military road. Lieutenant Mackintosh died at Pegu on 5.8.1855.
