General Samuel Brougham Faddy was born at Kishangarh, India in July 1816, the son of an indigo manufacturer. Appointed an Ensign in August 1835, he joined the 36th Bengal N.I. in the following month, with which Regiment he served in the First Sikh War, when he was present at the Battle of Aliwal. Back in action in the Punjab Campaign, he was present at the affairs at Ramnugar and Sadulpur, in addition to the Battles of Chilianwala and Goojerat, the whole while employed in the rank of Captain and as Officiating S.A.C.G. Faddy attained the rank of Major on the outbreak of the Indian Mutiny, again witnessed active service, and was advanced to Lieutenant Colonel in March 1861. His subsequent career culminated in his promotion to full General in December 1888 and he died at Bath in June 1890.
